A Ramsey man who was Pava sprayed twice by police outside Pizza Hut has been fined £675 for being drunk and disorderly and resisting arrest.
Thomas Ashley Hall, of Lheaney Road, admitted both offences with a third charge of obstructing police being withdrawn in light of the guilty pleas.
Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court how police were called to the area outside the takeaway on Walpole Avenue in Douglas on August 31.
There had been a report of criminal damage which Hall was not involved in but when police arrived the 23-year-old intervened in the investigation and started swearing and shouting.
He repeatedly interrupted police and was asked to leave the area but refused.
Hall was said to be holding a plastic cup believed to contain alcohol as he continued to shout and swear.
He was eventually arrested for being drunk and disorderly but as he was being taken into custody tensed his arms and body and attempted to throw himself away from officers.
Security staff from the takeaway assisted but they were still unable to get handcuffs on Hall and he was subsequently restrained using Pava spray.
Further officers arrived and Hall had to be Pava sprayed a second time as he was put on the ground.
Defence advocate Paul Glover said that his client had lost his job as a result of the incident and was now looking for work.
’He is incredibly apologetic to the police for what happened,’ said the advocate. ’It is simply a case of having too much to drink and not knowing when to go home.’
Magistrates fined Hall £225 for being drunk and disorderly and £450 for resisting arrest.
He must also pay £125 prosecution costs and will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £100 per month.
