Peel Coastguard was called out yesterday (Wednesday) after a man had been swept into a river in Ballagh Glen while trying to save his dog, which was later found dead.
A full team responded to a call that was issued at 10.44am when a man had jumped into a river to rescue his dog, Freddie, from rapid waters caused by the heavy rain.
The owner searched for his pet in the cold water, but managed to get out before the emergency services arrived.
He was rushed to hospital to have his condition checked, as he may have suffered from hypothermia due to the cold temperatures.
The Peel Coastguard team met with the Ramsey branch at the scene of emergency where they carried out a search for the missing pet, using their special water rescue gear.
After a few hours of searching the river banks, the teams were unable to find Freddie and later returned to their stations to prepare for future call-outs.
In a statement, a spokesman from Peel Coastguard thanked the Ramsey team and said: ’The IOM coastguard would like to remind the public to never enter fast-flowing water for any reason.’
Members of the Harley The Husky’s Missing Pets Facebook page were informed of the missing pet with some deciding to look for Freddie around the area.
Unfortunately the French Bulldog was found dead at 11am today (Thursday).
Chrissy Woodworth, a user of the page, said: ’The family are totally gutted. Thank you so much for everyone who has been looking for him.’
