A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 60 hours community service after admitting being found drunk in a public place.

Zachary Thomas Hardy, of Central Promenade, Douglas, was also banned from buying or being sold alcohol for four months by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

Prosecuting advocate Chrissie Hunt told the court that Hardy was seen sitting on steps at the Mannin Hotel on December 12.

He was said to be ’staggering all over the place’ and flailing his hands.

He then fell against fencing, bringing a piece of it down.

When police arrived they found him bent over at 45 degrees and smelling of alcohol.

After being arrested and interviewed Hardy told police: ’Yeah, I was twisted I was.’

The court heard that Hardy was sentenced to 80 hours community service on December 10 for being drunk and disorderly at the Rovers Return.

Defence advocate Louise Cooil said that Hardy had been given some painkillers due to a back injury but had been drinking on top of those.

The advocate said that Hardy worked at a garage and could lose his job which involved selling alcohol if he was given a licensing ban.

High Bailiff Mrs Hughes told Hardy: ’You need to address your alcohol consumption.’

Mrs Hughes ordered that the 60 hours run consecutively, starting after the 80 hours have been completed.

Hardy was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
