A Douglas man has been sentenced to community service for stealing headphones from WH Smith at the Sea Terminal.
Stephen Gerrard Arrowsmith, aged 39, of Taubman Terrace, admitted the theft and was ordered by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes to do 60 hours of unpaid work.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how Arrowsmith went into the store on April 13 to buy a paper.
However, he said he saw another man shoplifting and then took some items himself.
Arrowsmith said he initially took five items but put three back.
He said it had been a ’moment of madness’ and that he put the two pairs of headphones, worth a total of £12, in the bin at the bus station.
