A 48-year-old man has been given a conditional discharge after an incident outside his ex-partner’s home.

Andrew Thomas Georgeson, of Seafield Avenue, Port St Mary, admitted threatening behaviour and was handed the two-year order by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

Prosecuting advocate James Robinson told the court that Georgeson went to his former partner’s home on January 27 at 10.05pm.

He was said to be shouting outside and banging on the door forcefully.

Georgeson was said to be swearing and saying: ’Can you not think for yourself?’

The woman said that she was terrified and left at the rear of the property.

A neighbour called 999 and police arrived.

Georgeson told officers he was there to get a ring.

He continued being verbally aggressive and was said to be slurring his words and smelling of alcohol.

After being arrested and interviewed later Georgeson told police he had gone to the property to retrieve a ring that belonged to his late mother but couldn’t recall banging on the door.

He said he had drunk one can of Carling lager but had also had some prescription medication.

Defence advocate Sara-Jayne Dodge asked for the court to consider a conditional discharge saying that her client had stayed out of trouble for a considerable time.

’He was facing a number of difficulties. His relationship had broken down. It was the birthday of his late mother. He has no intention of contacting the complainant again.’

Ms Dodge handed in references for her client which described him as ’polite and curteous’.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Georgeson: ’Your behaviour was appalling. You disturbed not only the complainant but the neighbours nearby.’

He was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs which he will pay at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
