A man has been fined £500 after stealing a drill from B&Q.

Clive Billington, of Bayr Cam, admitted the theft of the drill, said to be worth £349, from the store on September 25.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court how CCTV footage showed Billington leave the store without paying and then get into a Renault Megane.

The car was traced to Billington’s address and he was subsequently arrested. A search of the address found the Makita twin set combi drill. In a police interview Billington gave ’no comment’ responses to all questions.

He initially pleaded not guilty to the offence but changed his plea on Tuesday.

Advocate Dawn Jones said her client had been suffering from depression and had seen his doctor.

’The sudden decision to do something outrageous and get a buzz from it was what drove him to it,’ said the advocate.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered Billington to pay £300 costs.
