A man was treated for smoke inhalation after a chimney fire.
Fire crews from Peel and Kirk Michael were called to a home in Patrick Street, Peel, at 10am.
Station officer Matt Tyrer said: ’Upon arrival, the officer-in-charge was able to confirm a fire located in the living room and within the chimney flue.
’A passer-by had assisted the single occupant out from the property.
’Crews entered the smoke-logged property wearing breathing apparatus and extinguished the fire using high-pressure hose reel.
’Simultaneously crews accessed the roof of the property using a nine-metre ladder and roof ladder to extinguish the chimney fire and removed a broken pot.
’The property was checked for hot spots using thermal imaging cameras then ventilated using a positive pressure ventilation fan.
’One male was treated for smoke inhalation by our colleagues from the Isle of Man Ambulance service.’
Crews were in attendance for about 1.5 hours.
Mr Tyrer added: ’We would like to remind all households with open fires to get their chimneys swept on a regular basis in order to prevent a build-up of soot and unburned products that remain in the flue, therefore preventing accidental chimney fires.’
