A Ramsey man has been fined £200 for attempting to breach a licensing ban.

Craig Brown, of Court Row, admitted trying to buy a four-pack of Stella lager from the Co-op in Parliament Street, Ramsey, on November 5 but was refused service by staff.

Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane said Brown was banned from purchasing alcohol on September 26 for three months. The ban came after the 26-year-old headbutted his cousin in the Stanley Hotel in Ramsey.

Advocate Louise Cooil said the offence for which the ban was imposed had been Brown’s first and only conviction.

Ms Cooil said the licensing ban had ’slipped his mind’ when he tried to buy the alcohol. ’A friend asked him to purchase the four-pack. He accepts it was wrong.’

’The licensing ban expired on Boxing Day.’

Magistrates chair Julian Ashcroft told Brown they would give him the benefit of the doubt.
