A man who assaulted his then partner, banging her head against a door seven times, has been committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
Geraint Richard Darrren Hughes, aged 38, had previously admitted an offence of assault causing actual bodily harm and property damage.
On Thursday, magistrates declined jurisdiction after watching CCTV footage of the incident and sent Hughes to the higher court for sentencing.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that Hughes, of North Shore Road, Ramsey, was out with the woman in the south of the island on October 30 last year.
She was driving and Hughes was drinking.
During their journey back to Ramsey the couple argued with Hughes said to be annoyed, accusing her of kissing another man.
At 2am they arrived home in Ramsey and he was said to have assumed she was staying at his house but the woman said she was going home.
Hughes then slammed the car door so hard that a window smashed.
As he went to his house the woman was said to have run in front of him to stop him going in.
He pushed her to the ground but she then followed him again and struck him in the face.
Hughes then grabbed her by her coat and drove her head against the door of the house seven times until she slumped to the ground.
Hughes then went inside the property but the woman got up and followed him inside.
In the hallway he grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against the wall.
She struck out at him but he again pushed her against the wall, holding her by the neck, until she slumped to the floor.
Hughes then went into his property leaving her there but 10 minutes later came back out and brought her inside.
The woman stayed in the flat but drove to Ramsey Cottage Hospital the next day.
She did not make a complaint to the police until November 4.
When Hughes was arrested he handed in a prepared statement saying the woman had attacked him and denying assaulting her or smashing the car window.
When shown CCTV footage Hughes claimed he was pushing her away rather than assaulting her.
Defence advocate Jane Gray said that the victim had received only minor injuries and asked for credit to be given for her client’s guilty pleas.
Magistrates declined jurisdiction and Hughes will be sentenced on March 19 at the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
No bail application was made and he is remanded in custody.
