A 22-year-old Onchan man has been sentenced to 60 hours of community service for cannabis possession.
Liam Scott Johnathon Murphy, of Buttermere Drive, admitted having £864-worth of the drug.
We previously reported how, on December 23 at 9.20pm, police executed a search warrant at an address in Murray’s Road where Murphy was living at the time.
He was not present so they forced entry and found two grams of cannabis.
However, while they were still at the property Murphy arrived home and his car was searched.
In the car, police found a further 41.2 grams of the drug in a compartment in the boot.
Murphy told police all the cannabis was for his own use. Prosecutor Barry Swain said there was no evidence Murphy was supplying the drug.
Defence advocate Paul Glover said that his client had almost completed a previous community service order, having five hours left out of 120.
’He has enjoyed the community service work,’ said the advocate. ’He would welcome the opportunity to continue it if the court was minded to go with the recommendation of the probation report.’
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered Murphy to pay £125 prosecution costs.
