A 45-year-old man has been fined £300 for possession of £60-worth of cannabis.

Glenn James Anderson, of Brookhill Road, Ramsey, who has a previous conviction for a drug offence in 2008, was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

Prosecutor Roger Kane said that the matter had been deemed not appropriate for an alternative method of disposal and brought to court due to Anderson’s previous convictions.

The court heard how police were called to Queen’s promenade in Ramsey on June 8 in relation to another matter which was not pursued.

Anderson was searched but nothing illegal was found on him so he was allowed to leave the scene.

However, a member of the public then told police that they saw Anderson in some bushes and he was stopped again on Parliament Street.

This time a bag containing three grams of cannabis was found in his pocket and he was subsequently arrested.

When interviewed Anderson told police he had bought the drug the day before for £50 but would not say from whom he bought it.

He admitted he had hidden it in the bushes before police arrived.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said: ’It was a relatively small amount of cannabis for personal use.’

Mr Glover went on to say that his client was currently claiming income support but had been offered a job as a window fitter.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered that Anderson pay his fine and costs at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
