A children’s party organiser who was jailed for the rapes of a young girl deserved every day of his jail term, top judges have ruled.
Lee Howard Ornstein, aged 30, of Malew Street, Castletown, subjected the girl to sickening assaults in the Great Yarmouth area of Norfolk.
Last September, he was jailed for 17 years - with a further seven years on extended licence - for four child rapes at Norwich Crown Court.
But Ornstein complained that the punishment was too severe and yesterday took his case to the Court of Appeal, where judges upheld the 17-year term.
’There can be no complaint about the sentence imposed - and this appeal is dismissed,’ Lord Justice Treacy told the London court.
Ornstein, who appeared in court via a video link from Norwich Prison, had argued that his sentence was ’excessive’.
He had also not been given enough credit for pleading guilty, he said.
But the appeal judge, sitting with Mr Justice Kerr and Judge Peter Collier QC, said Ornstein was ’fortunate’ to receive a reduction in sentence for the pleas.
Taking into account the fact there were four rapes and other aggravating features of the case, a 17-year term was appropriate, said the judge.
As he was considered to be a ’dangerous offender’, Ornstein will serve an additional seven years on supervised licence after release.
During that time, he will be in danger of recall to prison if he puts a foot wrong, meaning he could potentially end up serving up to 24 years in prison.
