An offender has been fined £200 for resisting arrest after police were called to a domestic incident.

Ian Derek Brown, aged 39, of Magher Breek, Peel, admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court how police were called to Brown’s address on November 18 at 4.50am. There had been an allegation involving a knife but no evidence was found. Brown was arrested to prevent a breach of the peace but he was said to have been argumentative and belligerent. As police attempted to handcuff him he said: ’No you’re not. You’re going to need a lot more than this. I am not going quietly. I will fight to the death.’

The incident resulted in him spending the night in custody though his partner said she was fine.

Defence advocate Deborah Myerscough asked magistrates to deal with the offence by way of a financial penalty, to which they agreed. Brown was ordered to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £25 per week.

l Denise Elizabeth Watterson, aged 50, of Buck’s Road, Douglas, has been charged with provoking behaviour.

She did not appear in court but asked for an adjournment saying that she was self-isolating. Her court date was rescheduled for December 3.
