A Douglas man who uses cannabis for pain in his eye has been fined.
Omar Ounis Benmansour, aged 27, admitted having £230 worth of the drug at his home in Fairfield Terrace, Douglas.
Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court that, on July 1, Benmansour was initially arrested on another matter which was not proceeded with.
A search of his home address found 9.6 grams of cannabis bush valued at £192 and 6.8 grams of cannabis resin, said to be worth £38.
When interviewed he gave ’no comment’ responses.
Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and said that this was his first drug-related conviction.
Mr Glover said that Benmansour used the drug for pain in his eye caused by a tumour, which had rendered him blind in the eye.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Benmansour that she was taking into account that he was using the drug for medicinal purposes but advised him that he should seek further assistance from his GP.
He was fined £450 and ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
