Manx Telecom customers are being warned about a scam.
The police say that some people have received calls from people saying they work for Manx Telecom.
The caller says that additional costs have been incurred by the billpayer, usually a small amount, which needs to be paid or the telephone service will be suspended.
This prompts the bill payer to provide credit card details to pay the small amount.
The police said; ’Manx Telecom have assured us that they will never make such calls and customers should never provide bank or credit card details over the telephone in this manner.
’In the latest reported incident, following a request for the payment of £8.91, three attempts were made to withdraw cash from an account.
’This was identified by the bank as unusual activity and staff stopped the transactions going through. Very astute staff and a lucky member of the public.’
