A 21-year-old student has been fined £300 for having two defective tyres on his car.

Rui Pedro Tavares Cardoso, of Cronk Avenue, Onchan, admitted the offences and also had his driving licence endorsed with three points.

The court heard that Cardoso’s Vauxhall Corsa was parked on Athol Street in Douglas on October 10.

A member of the public reported the condition of the tyres, which had cords showing, and he was subsequently spoken to by police.

Cardoso said that he had been shopping in town and had planned to get the tyres repaired the next day.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered him to pay £50 prosecution costs which he will pay along with the fine at a rate of £15 per week.
