Two men have been fined £750 each after they refused to leave a Douglas bar and abused staff.
Jonathan David Lang, of Lucerne Court, Douglas, and Adam Peter Forshaw, of Cronk Grianagh Estate, Braddan, both admitted disorderly behaviour on licensed premises.
Prosecutor Hazel Carroon told the court how, on September 10 at 8.35pm, police were called to Artisan on Victoria Street after a report of two men refusing to leave and being abusive.
Bar staff told police Lang had been asked to leave on numerous occasions but had refused.
He was then said to have sworn at one member of staff after he and Forshaw were refused alcohol.
As he was arrested Lang told police: ’Don’t make me angry or I will batter you.’
Defending both men in court, advocate Deborah Myerscough said: ’Both had been out from around lunchtime. It was unusual for them to drink like this during the day.
’Both had far more alcohol than they were used to, hence why they have little recollection of events.
’Mr Lang is horrifed by his behaviour. This is out of character for him.
’He has booked himself in for some further education in respect of alcohol. If given the opportunity, he would be more than willing to apologise to staff at Artisan.
’Mr Forshaw says he had recently started taking medication and has spoken to his doctor and knows now not to drink while on his medication.’
Ms Myerscough said Forshaw was also willing to apologise to the pub’s staff.
’For the last couple of days he said he’s not been able to sleep for worrying about what may happen today,’ said the advocate.
’These do appear to be men who have learned their lesson and they spent a night in custody as well.’
Ms Myerscough asked that both be spared a ban from entering licensed premises as their work was said to require them to do so.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes banned both men from purchasing or being sold alcohol for one month and ordered them to pay £125 prosecution costs each.
