Detectives investigating a series of arson attacks at properties in central Douglas have made an arrest.
Police patrols were stepped up in Mona Street earlier this month after a number of deliberate fires were lit.
But this week, two further fires were set at houses on the street overnight on Tuesday/Wednesday.
Damage was caused to doors at the two premises.
On Sunday, January 6, a white Ford Focus parked in the street was set alight at about 9.15pm.
Fires were lit at the front door of a property in Mona Street at an unknown time the following day and at a neighbouring home at 2.50am on Wednesday, January 9.
Fortunately, fire crews were able to deal with the incidents quickly and as a result no one was hurt.
Initially, police believed the fires were targeted at one individual.
In a statement, police said: ’We can confirm a person has been arrested in relation to the ongoing investigation into the recent arsons in Mona Street, Douglas. No further comment will be made at this time.’
Police inquiries are continuing.
They have renewed their appeal for witnesses who were in the area of Mona Street on the relevant dates and may have noticed anyone acting suspiciously.
Officers have urged the public to remain vigilant while their investigations are ongoing.
