Firefighters have been called out to deal with more incidents of brush/shrub fires.

They were caused by bonfires that spread out of control.

At 12.50pm, appliances from Kirk Michael, Peel and Douglas responded to a property on the Bollyn Road, Ballaugh, after reports of a bonfire that was spreading in to a nearby field.

Crews were able to bring this under control quickly using hosereel equipment.

At the same time appliances from Port Erin and Douglas responded to a property in Ronague for reports of a bonfire that was spreading to nearby hedges and property.

Due to the swift actions of crews, who used beaters until an additional water supply was established, the fire was prevented from spreading to the nearby property.

A fire service spokesman said: ’Both of these incidents serve as a reminder to the public that they should use extreme caution during this prolonged spell of dry weather.

’Fortunately, on both of these occasions we were able to intervene before property was lost and further damage caused.’
