A mother has been handed a suspended sentence for her involvement in bringing cannabis to the island.
Jessica Esther Callister, aged 28, of Douglas, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the production of cannabis to the island, possession of cannabis with intent to supply, and possession of cannabis.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes sentenced her to 20 weeks in custody, suspended for two years.
The charges were said to relate to 51.4 grams of the drug valued at £1,208.
They were said to have been posted to Callister’s address but ordered by another person.
Callister said that she used the drug for health problems after a friend suggested it.
Defence advocate Louise Cooil said: ’Ms Callister was not a habitual drug user.
’She hasn’t ordered it herself. It has been ordered by another and she was to be given payment in cannabis.
’She has been stupid to become involved in this scheme.’
Ms Cooil said that it had been a case of someone ’preying on the vulnerable at their most vulnerable.’
The advocate said that Callister was the full-time carer for her child and that her human rights tipped the case towards a suspended sentence.
Mrs Hughes said that grounds to suspend were Callister’s lack of previous convictions, her guilty plea, her health, and her human rights to a family life.
The High Bailiff also ordered Callister to pay £125 prosecution costs.
