The police have named a motorcyclist who died following a crash early yesterday morning in the area of the grandstand at the bottom of Hillberry.

A post on the force's Facebook page said: 'Police now confirm that the male is Clive James McNeil 67 years of age from Onchan and that he died of his injuries at the scene.

'Police confirm that they do not believe any other person or vehicle were involved and the matter will be reported to the Coroner of Inquests.

'The incident happened around 4:45 – 5am this morning and police are requesting anyone who may have seen a single motorcycle rider in the area around that time or may have witnessed the incident to contact DC Lewis Cassidy in CID on 631212.'

The road was closed between Cronk Ny Mona and the Creg Ny Baa for several hours as crash investigators carried out their initial investigations.
