A Douglas man has admitted driving while he was under the influence of cannabis.

Omar Ounis Benmansour, of Fairfield Terrace, will be sentenced today (Thursday) after a probation report has been completed.

Benmansour, aged 26, pleaded guilty to an offence of driving whilst unfit.

Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the court how, on December 8 at 10.15pm, Benmansour was driving his Audi on the A18 Mountain Road.

He was seen by police officers who had concerns about his driving.

They stopped him at Hillberry.

Report

Officers reported that there was a smell of cannabis in the car.

Benmansour was said to have slurred speech and be slow in giving answers to questions.

He was arrested and taken to Douglas police headquarters.

He provided a blood sample which produced a result of 5.7 micrograms.

There is not a legal limit in the island but in the UK it is two micrograms which can be used for guidance.

Defence advocate Michael Mudge asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that a probation officer would be in court today and could see Benmansour to compile the report.

Bail continues.
