A 29-year-old Laxey woman has been fined after driving twice in an untaxed car in two days.

Terri Michelle Sheppard, of Ballacannell Estate, admitted the offences, as well as failing to change the ownership of a vehicle.

Magistrates fined her a total of £300, £100 for each of the three offences.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court how Sheppard was first seen by an off-duty police officer driving the untaxed Lexus at Corkill’s garage in Onchan on February 22.

Police called at her home and quizzed her about the vehicle licence which had expired in June 2018.

Sheppard told them: ’I can’t tax the car there’s a dispute over ownership.

’I have to use it, I have three kids.’

She also said that she didn’t know where the log book was.

Despite being told not to drive the car again Sheppard was then spotted by police on February 24 on Circular Road in Douglas.

She was stopped and told police that it was an emergency as she had to collect her child’s inhaler and her boyfriend’s work clothes.

Defence advocate Ian Kermode said: ’Ms Sheppard would say she assumed ownership in September 2018.

’The car belonged to her now ex-partner.

’He retained the log book and certain documents and was being difficult.’

Magistrates also ordered Sheppard to pay £50 prosecution costs.
