A 31-year-old Douglas woman has been fined £600 by Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes for three driving-related offences.
Daniella Louise Steventon, of Allan Street, admitted driving with no insurance, a licence offence, and failing to set a parking brake.
The court heard how, on December 6 at 4.40pm, police were called to Falcon Street in Douglas after a report of a car abandoned in the middle of the road.
Officers found a Ford Focus parked across the street with no handbrake on.
It was unattended and was subsequently removed.
Later, Steventon called the police and reported her vehicle stolen but was told it had been removed by police.
She was asked to attend police headquarters with her documents but said: ’I haven’t got any, I knew I’d get into trouble for this.’
In a police interview she said she thought she had applied the handbrake but was now ’doubting herself’.
Defence advocate Winston Taylor said that his client had bought the car two months previously.
’She had a provisional licence which had lapsed and had been on her parents’ insurance to drive their car,’ said the advocate.
’The vehicle had been parked outside her property but she needed a permit so she sought to move it to her uncle’s property.
’The distance isn’t particularly large. She believes she had applied the handbrake but had lent over to the passenger side and it may have come loose.’
Steventon was fined £400 for having no insurance, £100 for having no vehicle licence, and £100 for failing to set a parking brake.
She was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.
