A 28-year-old man from Sulby has been fined £500 for driving without insurance or a vehicle licence.

James Matthew Sowrey, of Ballamanagh Road, also had his licence endorsed with five penalty points after admitting both offences.

Prosecutor James Robinson told the court that Sowrey was stopped by police on February 21 at Gladstone Park industrial estate in Ramsey.

His tax had expired in September 2018 and he had no insurance.

Defence advocate Louise Cooil said that the offences arose due to administrative errors by her client after he had moved address.

Ms Cooil said that Sowrey had taxed and insured the car the day after he was spoken to by police.

Magistrates fined him £400 for having no insurance and £100 for the licence offence.

He must also pay £50 prosecution costs and will pay the overall sum at a rate of £100 per month.
