A motorist who was stopped by police on Christmas Day has been fined £500 for two driving-related offences.

Peter Kevin Ross, aged 38, of Lheannag Park, Anagh Coar, pleaded guilty to a licence offence and having no car insurance.

Magistrates also endorsed his licence with six penalty points.

Prosecutor Hazel Carroon told the court how Ross was stopped by police on Christmas Day while driving a Nissan Micra on Hillberry Road in Onchan.

His licence had expired and he was given five days to produce insurance but failed to do so.

Advocate James Peterson said that Ross owned his own business, working as a self-employed window cleaner.

Mr Peterson said: ’That works vehicle was off the road and he borrowed his nephew’s car.

’He thought the insurance for the works van covered him but clearly it didn’t.

’Regarding the driving licence, that had expired by nine days. He had thought it was due to run out at the end of the month. He was moving house at the time and didn’t properly check.’

The advocate said that Ross’s licence had now been renewed.

Magistrates fined Ross £100 for the licence offence as well as £400 for having no insurance. He must also pay £50 prosecution costs.
