A 49-year-old driver who was involved in a head-on collision has been fined £500 and banned for six months.
Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court that Hadley was driving his Vauxhall Zafira on April 5 at 3.30pm, on the Mountain Road heading towards Ramsey.
He was in a line of traffic travelling at the 30mph speed limit when the vehicle in front of him slowed and stopped.
Hadley, who works in retail, was then said to have crossed into the opposite lane causing a Lexus which was coming in the opposite direction to brake. However, he failed to brake in time and the two cars collided causing the airbags in both vehicles to be deployed.
An ambulance was required for the Lexus driver but he or she was found to have no injuries.
Hadley told police: ’It was my fault I just wasn’t concentrating.’
He was interviewed voluntarily at his home on a later date and said that he couldn’t remember exactly what happened but that he had lost concentration and began veering in the road.
He said he was not attempting to overtake and had just been tired after looking after his ill mother.
Hadley represented himself in court, declining the use of the duty advocate, and said that he accepted the prosecution case.
He told the court that he had not driven since the accident and that his car had been written off as a result of the crash.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that she had taken into account that Hadley had not driven since the crash and also ordered him to pay £50 prosecution costs.
He will pay at a rate of £50 per month.
