A 42-year-old man from Douglas has been fined £550 after crashing into a wall on Richmond Hill.
Mihai Cosmin Cuibus, of Woodbourne Road, admitted careless driving and having a defective tyre.
He also had his licence endorsed with eight penalty points.
The court heard how, on May 11, police were called to Richmond Hill after a report of an accident.
Cuibus had driven his Ford Fiesta into a garden wall.
He said he was trying to overtake going up the hill but decided stop the manouevre.
However, he said his car spun around and hit the wall.
Defence advocate Louise Cooil said that Cuibus had lent the car to a friend for six months and had only had it back for a month at the time of the accident.
Ms Cooil said that it was the inner shoulder of the tyre where the tred was worn, so it was not immediately visible.
’It was an ill-judged manouevre,’ said the advocate. ’There was a slow-moving van. He was the third car in a line who were all overtaking. He was in a rush to get to the airport to pick up his mother.
’He tried to overtake the other two cars but had to brake to try to move back into line and spun.’
The court heard that the wall had been completely demolished but paid for by Cuibus’ insurers.
He was fined £400 for careless driving, £150 for having a defective tyre, and must pay £50 prosecution costs.
