A 66-year-old man from Santon has been fined £130 for motoring offences.
Christopher Alfred Beauman, of Old Castletown Road, admitted speeding and a licence offence and was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how, on October 9 at 2.56pm, police were conducting speed checks at Kewaigue Hill.
Beauman was clocked drving at 48mph in the 40mph zone in his Mercedes.
He produced documents at a police station but was found to only hold a provisional licence.
Defending Beauman in court his advocate Roger Kane asked for credit to be given for his client’s early guilty plea.
Mr Kane said: ’Mr Beauman has held a licence for over 50 years. He has an American licence and was able to drive on it when he first moved here but that changed and he is now required to take a Manx test.
’In the main, his wife drives him to hospital appointments but on this day his wife was off island and he had no-one to drive him.
’He holds his hands up for this error of judgement.
’Regarding the speeding, it was on a stretch of road he thought was a 50mph zone. He is an experienced driver of over 50 years.’
Beauman also had his licence endorsed with two penalty points.
