A motorist has been fined £810 for driving without insurance or tax.

Thomas Ashley Hall, of Lheaney Road, Ramsey, admitted both offences and also had his licence endorsed with seven penalty points.

Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court that Hall’s BMW came to the attention of police on August 15 as it was obstructing the front of a garage.

The vehicle licence had expired in January and the 24-year-old defendant was in a nearby property.

Hall was given five days to produce driving documents and went to Ramsey police station on August 21.

However, he produced an insurance certificate which had started on August 17.

Defence advocate James Peterson said that the offences had been an ’oversight’ on the part of his client.

’Mr Hall had been away for a period of time and was unaware the tax had expired,’ said the advocate.

Mr Peterson went on to say that Hall had no similar matters on his record and was a self-employed tiler.

Magistrates fined him £650 for having no insurance and £160 for no vehicle licence.
