A 45-year-old man has been fined £1,000 by magistrates for three driving-related offences.
Stephen Thomas Simpson, of The Bretney, Jurby, pleaded guilty to having no insurance, driving without due care and attention, and failing to produce a driving licence.
He was fined £400 for the insurance offence, £500 for the careless driving offence and £100 for the failure to produce offence.
He was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.
The court heard how, at 6.55pm on July 1, Simpson was driving a Land Rover on the Sulby straight when he collided with a Citroen Picasso.
Simpson had pulled off a halt sign and hit the Citroen when it had right of way.
He also failed to produce his licence at a police station within five days after being ordered to do so.
He told police he thought he had enough time to complete the manoeuvre.
Defence advocate Deborah Myerscough said: ’There has been an error of judgement on Mr Simpson’s part. He thought he had sufficient time to cross the carriageway and clearly he did not.
’He was using his father’s car on that day and that is why he was not insured.’
