This little girl is recovering at home following an alleged hit and run collision.

Cassie-Mai Osborne had gone off to the shops with her big brother Justin to buy some sweets when she was struck by a reversing car at the junction of Allan Street and Westmoreland Road, Douglas.

The seven-year-old, a pupil at Henry Bloom Noble School, suffered a lot of bruising to her ankles, hip and side and was taken to A&E at Noble’s Hospital for a check-up but was fortunately not more seriously injured.

Mum Natalie said from the family’s home on Westmoreland Road: ’She’s off school today and quite sore. It’s still quite shocking.

’I wish the driver would have stopped to apologise and make sure she was okay. It could have been a lot worse.’

Natalie explained that Cassie-Mai and University College Isle of Man student Justin, who is 17, had been crossing the road at about 6.50pm on Wednesday when a female driver in a white 4x4 on Allan Street apparently over-shot the junction and then reversed.

The motorist turned right and drove off despite Justin shouting out to her.

Natalie said there had been a lot more traffic on Westmoreland Road since roadworks have closed a section of Bucks Road.

Police are urging the driver of the white vehicle - which is thought to be a Honda 4x4 - to come forward.

Anyone who saw the incident or has other information is asked to contact police headquarters on 631212.
