The newest recruits to the Isle of Man’s Fire and Rescue Service have completed their initial training course.
Natasha McKenzie (Douglas) and Marc Faragher (Ramsey) will join the service as on-call fire fighters.
The service shared pictures of the two in a variety of training exercises including setting up pumping equipment, climbing ladders and using the hose.
They will continue to build their skills and knowledge as they attend weekly training evenings on their stations and attending further courses at Douglas station.
An on-call firefighter is someone who responds to a range of fire and rescue service jobs, these range from emergency calls, working at open days, carrying out work with their local communities and acting as an ambassador for the fire service. When they get the call, they become professional firefighters.
In light of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, the fire service has advised that it has limited its home safety visits and programmed fire safety inspections to ’those circumstances where significant risk exists that could lead to loss of life or significant distress’.
