A Douglas man has been fined £300 for being drunk and disorderly.
William Russell, aged 41, of Woodville Terrace, admitted the offence and must also pay £125 prosecution costs.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how, on July 11 at 11.55pm, police were called to Woodville Terrace after a report of a disturbance in the street there.
When police arrived they were approached by Russell as they were trying to establish what had happened.
Russell was said to be drunk, slurring his words and smelling of alcohol.
When asked for his details he was said to have become confrontational, walking up to one officer in an aggressive manner.
The officer had to put his hand on Russell’s chest to stop him and told him to move back.
Russell then swore at police before he was subsequently arrested.
Defence advocate Jim Travers asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea.
Mr Travers said: ’It was the officer who put his hands on Mr Russell first of all. As he was walking off he uttered the expletive rather than it being any continued act of aggression.
’It would appear this was a parting gesture. He accepts he was in an irate mood. A number of his personal belongings had gone missing.’
