A 26-year-old has admitted intimidating a witness by sending him Facebook messages.

Phillip Nyamande sent the messages to a man who is a witness in an ongoing case in which Nyamande is not involved.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that the complainant in the case was contacted by Nyamande, who lives in Mountain view in Ballaugh, on September 17 via Facebook messenger.

Nyamande used his own profile, which included a photo of him, and told the man: ’I’ll be seeing you very soon. Drop the charges. When I run into you it’s on.’

He was arrested and gave ’no comment’ responses to all questions.

Ms Cubbon submitted that the case was suitable for summary court sentencing, given the guilty plea, and the fact there had been no physical action.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said that the intimidation had been relatively low level and unsophisticated.

Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks accepted summary court jurisdiction and adjourned the case until November 2 to allow time for a probation report to be prepared.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions to live at his home address, not contact the complainant, and not leave the island without court consent.
