A woman who punched her ex-boyfriend’s partner, fracturing her nose, has been put on probation for six months.
Katie Ann Glover initially pleaded not guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm but then changed her plea to guilty at the pre-trial review stage.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that Glover’s former partner arrived at her home at Anagh Coar Road in Douglas on April 4 at noon.
Glover, who is 37, said that she had previously warned his current girlfriend not to come near her house after receiving provocative online messages from her.
However, the woman was present and Glover was said to have approached her and punched her on the nose, causing a minor fracture.
When interviewed Glover told police she had been in bed when the couple arrived at her home and had opened the door to see the woman standing close to the house, something which the woman had disputed.
Glover said that she had previously warned her that she would hit her if she came to her address.
Defence advocate Ian Kermode entered a basis of plea for his client in which Glover reiterated that she had warned the woman to stay away from her home after receiving provocative messages.
Glover said that the woman pushed her away and then admitted punching her.
She said that she was then pushed to the ground herself by her ex-partner.
Mr Kermode handed in letters of reference for his client and said: ’There was a degree of provocation in the telecommunication evidence in the weeks and months prior to the incident - principally telling the victim never to come to her home.
’So it was a red rag to a bull when she did turn up.
’There was no premeditation. It was a spontaneous act. There was no weapon used. It was lunchtime and there was no suggestion of intoxication.’
The advocate asked for the court to consider the article eight human rights of Glover’s children and handed in a letter from her former partner in support of her.
The court heard that she has a previous conviction for affray in 2011 but no previous assault charges and no offences for three years.
A probation report assessed Glover as a low risk of reoffending and medium risk of harm to others.
Magistrates ordered to pay £300 prosecution costs which she will pay at a rate of £10 per week.
