A 28-year-old Castletown man has been fined £400 for being drunk and disorderly.
Ashley Graham Kelly, of West Hill Avenue, admitted the offence and was also ordered by magistrates to pay £125 prosecution costs.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that police were called to King William’s Terrace in Castletown on August 29 at 10.28pm after a report of a fight there.
When officers arrived Kelly was being restrained on the ground by other people there.
He was said to be unsteady on his feet, smelling of alcohol and slurring his words.
Police handcuffed him but he began swearing and shouting ’get off me’ numerous times.
As he was put in a police van Kelly launched into a verbal tirade, swearing and telling police: ’I’ll find out where you live and stab you. When you open the door I’ll kick your teeth out.’
convictions
The court heard that he has previous convictions, including drink-related ones, but some time ago.
Defence advocate Ian Kermode said that Kelly had been experiencing some difficulties with friends on the night in question which had led to a dispute and him being restrained on the pavement.
’He accepts when police arrived there was shouting and swearing,’ said the advocate.
’He said he had consumed five pints of lager at that point.’
’Over the last eight or nine years he has considerably settled down. He is working in a car workshop. His attitude is one of regret and he wishes to apologise to the police and neighbours for the inconvenience caused.’
Mr Kermode went on to argue against a licensing ban, saying that Kelly had been drinking at a friend’s house and had not been in a pub.
Magistrates ordered Kelly to pay his fine and costs at a rate of £20 per week.
