A man who urinated in a police cell after being arrested for being found drunk in a public place has been fined £400.
Trey Joseph O’Sullivan, aged 20, was also ordered by magistrates to pay £150 compensation for the cell to be cleaned.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that police found O’Sullivan asleep on a pavement on February 19 at 4.50am at Victoria Crescent in Douglas.
He refused to co-operate with officers or provide an address despite being asked numerous times and was eventually arrested.
After being taken to police headquarters he was put in a cell.
O’Sullivan, who lives in Berrywoods Avenue, Douglas, was then said to stripped naked and urinated on the floor even though there was a toilet in the cell.
He then raised his two middle fingers to the CCTV.
O’Sullivan pleaded guilty to offences of being found drunk in a public place and property damage.
The court heard that he has no previous convictions but a caution for being drunk and disorderly.
Defence advocate Paul Glover said: ’Mr O’Sullivan simply had too much to drink. He knows he only has himself to blame and he is embarrassed and ashamed.
’He is going to learn an extremely valuable and expensive lesson.
’He has little to no memory of what happened in the cell but he wants to apologise to the police.’
Magistrates chair Michael Murley told O’Sullivan: ’It’s fair to say you should be thoroughly ashamed and embarrassed by your behaviour. It’s about time you thought long and hard about your drinking. Your behaviour in the cell was appalling.’
O’Sullivan was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs, which he must pay along with the fine and compensation, within one week.
