A 38-year-old offender who punched a man at 1886 bar in Douglas has been fined £1,000 for disorderly behaviour on licensed premises.
Michael John Westhead admitted the offence and was also handed a six-month pub ban by magistrates.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police were called to the Regent Street bar on May 8 at 2.25am.
Bouncers reported a fight on the premises which had involved Westhead punching a man.
He was restrained by security staff and was then taken to hospital due to suffering a head injury himself, allegedly caused by a glass being thrown at him.
After being discharged from hospital and taken to police headquarters Westhead told police during an interview that he had no recollection of the incident or throwing a punch.
The defendant, who lives in Heather Crescent, Douglas, said he had been drinking at home and had then gone to 1886 bar where he drank some double vodkas and some Jack Daniels whiskey.
Defence advocate Peter Taylor said that CCTV footage showed Westhead and the other man involved in the fight initially talking and seeming to be on friendly terms before trouble started.
’Mr Westhead is very remorseful after viewing the CCTV,’ said the advocate.
He continued: ’He has completed two previous licensing bans and they have been effective.
’There have been no further problems since this incident in early May.’
Mr Taylor went on to ask if the ban could be limited to buying or being sold alcohol rather than entering licensed premises as well.
However, magistrates ruled that the ban should also apply to Westhead entering licensed premises.
He will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £100 per month.
