Two graves at St Peter’s church graveyard have been extensively damaged yesterday (Wednesday).

The police were informed after Reverend Clive Burgess and graveyard staff came across the desecrated graves early in the morning.

Members of the public have taken to social media to express their upset or to offer help.

One wrote: ’This is truly disgusting! So sad that someone would do something so horrible. My family are buried there and it would be heartbreaking to see any of their graves vandalised.’

Another stated: ’This is despicable and I hope they find the culprits and make them pay for the damage. What is our island coming to? I feel so sorry for the relatives of the family whose graves these belong to!’
