A mother has been fined £600 after admitting obstructing police at Noble’s Hospital.
Lisa Dawn Grant, aged 42, of Courtyard Apartments, Castletown, was trying to stop her adult son from being arrested.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police were called to Malew Road in Castletown on November 3 at 1am after a report of two men fighting.
Grant, a personal trainer, was in hospital with her son, who was injured.
The court heard when police attempted to arrest the man at 2am Grant pushed officers and put herself between them and her son before being arrested herself.
When interviewed, Grant said she had been very upset.
She entered a basis of plea saying her son had been having an anxiety attack after being told he was being arrested and she was concerned for him. She accepted she impeded the arrest.
Advocate Ian Kermode said: ’This was very much a case of a mother being overprotective. Ms Grant got herself unnecessarily involved with the arrest procedure.’
Mr Kermode handed in references for his client and said she was involved in charity work for Hospice.
’She spent just over 12 hours in a police cell,’ said the advocate. ’Her son was ultimately not charged.’
Grant was ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
