A Douglas man has been jailed after a parcel of cannabis addressed to him was intercepted at the sorting office.
The package contained £2,570 of the drug.
Jude Sneddon, aged 28, of Drury Terrace, was jailed for 16 weeks.
He admitted production of cannabis to the island, attempting to possess the drug, and possession of cannabis.
He also pleaded guilty to having no vehicle licence, having no insurance, having a vehicle in a dangerous condition, failing to produce a driving licence, failing to produce insurance, and failing to give information on a driver.
Prosecutor Richard Butters told the court how, on November 13, police were called to the sorting office at Spring Valley.
A parcel addressed to ’J Snedd’ at Drury Terrace was intercepted and found to contain a large quantity of cannabis.
Delivery of the package was attempted but Sneddon was not in and a card was left for him. He then attended the sorting office and was arrested.
The parcel contained 127 grams of cannabis with an estimated street value of £2,570.
A search of Sneddon’s home found a small amount of the drug with scales.
When interviewed Sneddon told police that he smoked cannabis daily to relax.
He then answered ’no comment’ to all other questions.
The court heard that he has 16 pages worth of previous convictions.
The driving offence occurred earlier in the year on July 4.
A witness reported seeing a Subaru being driven dangerously, making multiple last minute overtakes and with black smoke coming from the exhaust.
Police located the car and the vehicle licence had expired in October 2017.
It was also found to have 18 defects after being taken to the test centre.
At the time Sneddon claimed he was not the driver.
He was given five days to produce documents but failed to do so.
Defence advocate Stephen Wood said that the value of the drug stated, £2,570, was only applicable if it was divided into small deals and sold.
Mr Wood said that his client had bought it for £500 as it was all for personal use and it was cheaper to buy it in bulk.
’It was not a sophisticated offence,’ said the advocate. ’The package was addressed to "J Snedd". He was bound to be caught and he was.’
Of the driving offences Mr Wood said that the Subaru was a ’project’ that Sneddon was working on and he was moving it from private land it had been kept on.
Magistrates jailed Sneddon for 16 weeks for the production offence and he was banned from driving for six months.
