A woman has died following a collision on a road in the north of the island last night.

The police confirmed the death in a statement which said the crash, on Lezayre Road, occurred between 1am and 1.20am.

A spokesman said: ’We can now confirm that a female pedestrian has died as a result of this collision.

’An in depth investigation is now underway and police would still like to hear from anyone in the area at the time that can assist with our enquiries.

’Those who can assist are asked to contact PC 286 Andrew Greaves of the Roads Policing Unit.

’We understand that this is an emotive matter and we ask that no speculation is made as to the circumstances as it does not help any ongoing investigations or the families of those affected.’

The incident occurred near Auldyn School. Earlier today officers said they would like to hear from anyone who was in that area or had driven through that area at this time and may have seen anything or have dash cam footage.
