A 43-year-old motorist has admitted causing serious bodily harm by driving without due care after an accident left a pedestrian with a brain injury.
The victim suffered a bleed on the brain and was said to have had severe seizures in hospital.
He was also left with a broken nose, fractured cheekbone and fractured eye socket.
Huxley will be sentenced on January 26 after a probation report has been completed.
Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that Huxley was driving his van on October 12 at 4.30pm on Woodbourne Road towards St Ninian’s.
The victim was walking along Woodbourne Road and then stopped at a pedestrian crossing.
He said that he saw the van slowing so he thought it was about to stop.
The man started to cross, but when he was halfway across the road he was struck by the vehicle.
He was thrown onto the bonnet with his head hitting the windscreen.
Huxley stopped and several witnesses assisted with first aid until an ambulance and police arrived.
When interviewed Huxley handed in a prepared statement saying that he did not see the pedestrian until impact.
Prosecutor Ms Carroon submitted that the case was suitable for summary court sentencing.
Defence advocate Kate Alexander agreed and said that there was no indication her client was exceeding the speed limit.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes accepted jurisdiction and said that she would need an update on the victim’s injuries and a prognosis before sentencing.
Mrs Hughes ordered that the probation report consider all options, including custody.
Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions to live at his home address, contact probation, and not leave the island without court permission.
