Anti-vaccine campaigner Courtenay Adam Heading, who refused to be identified in court last week, has now been bailed.

Mr Heading, aged 62, of Richmond Road, Ramsey, confirmed he wished to enter a not guilty plea to three driving-related offences.

Mr Heading first appeared in court last Tuesday when he said that his name was a ’legal fiction’ and then refused to speak to High Bailiff Jayne Hughes after saying he did not acknowledge that the court had any jurisdiction.

Mrs Hughes entered not guilty pleas on Mr Heading’s behalf and remanded him in custody after he ignored requests for a bail address or a bail application.

But on Thursday, after being on remand in Jurby, Mr Heading answered to his name and address and confirmed that he wanted to continue with the not guilty pleas.

He is accused of driving with no insurance, having a vehicle with no registration mark and having no vehicle licence.

Prosecutor Barry Swain said that the prosecution case was that Mr Heading was stopped by police on the Mountain Road on July 12 at 1.35pm while driving a Renault Clio with a number plate which read ’CLCJurby’.

When police spoke to him it is alleged that he told them: ’I do not consent. I do not recognise your jurisdiction. I have the right to remain silent.’

A trial will now take place on August 6. Mr Heading was granted bail in the sum of £500.
