A light aircraft crashed in the centre of the island this afternoon.

It happened at 2.50pm in Mount Rule, Braddan.

The two occupants had managed to get out of the aircraft before emergency services arrived.

They were given precautionary checks by ambulance service staff.

The fire and rescue service and police were also called.
