A 38-year-old Douglas plasterer has been fined £300 for being drunk and disorderly.

Kevin Paul Murphy, of Hillside Terrace, admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court how, on June 8 at 7.20pm, Murphy was walking with another man at Guttery Gable in Douglas.

The pair were stopped by police after information was received regarding drugs.

Murphy was said to be aggressive and loud, shouting and swearing, despite warnings from police.

He was subsequently arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

The court heard that his last offence for drunkeness was in 2008.

Murphy chose to represent himself in court and said: ’I over-indulged and would just like to apologise for my behaviour.’

He was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs and was told by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes: ’You had lots of opportunity to walk away but you chose not to.’

He will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £30 per week.
