A 21-year-old man has been fined £400 for being drunk and disorderly after creating two disturbances in one night in Peel.

Joseph Neil Devereau, of Lewthwaite’s Way, Port St Mary, ran away from police after his first brush with them but was then arrested after a 999 call about his behaviour at a second location.

Police were initially called to Station Road on November 29 by a resident who thought they could hear a fight outside.

Devereau was said to be covered in mud as he fled after officers spoke to him at 9.45pm. He had only one trainer on when he ran away.

Police then received a 999 call from a resident in Douglas Street who said that Devereau was shouting and banging on a door.

When police arrived for their second meeting with him Devereau started shouting and swearing at them.

He was said to be smelling of alcohol and unsteady on his feet.

He was arrested and put in a risk suit and said that he wanted to put in a complaint about his arm being injured.

Defence advocate Deborah Myerscough said: ’Mr Devereau has asked me to apologise for his behaviour. There has been nothing further since that offence.

’He has indicated he has had some difficulties this last year and is now receiving assistance. He is not drinking at all.’

Ms Myerscough went on to say that Devereau had recently been made redundant and asked for him to be given time to pay any fine.

Deputy High Bailiff Chris Arrowsmith told Devereau: ’You might consider yourself lucky not to be charged with other matters.’

He was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs which he will pay along with the fine at a rate of £70 per month.
