Police have praised teachers and Bus Vannin for ‘pulling out all the stops’ to help following an accident outside an island school.
It came after a a road traffic collision involving a car and a woman pedestrian led to the road between Braddan Oak and the roundabout at Ballafletcher Road being closed. A woman suffered leg injuries after being in collision with a car outside Braddan primary school.Police said the 52-year-old woman was struck by a blue Nissan Micra on Braddan Road. The woman was taken to Noble's Hospital for treatment, while the driver of the car was said to be unhurt.
As accident investigators carried out their work it was approaching ‘home time’ and the start of the half-term holiday for Braddan Primary School.
Police said at short notice Bus Vannin were approached and provided two double decker buses to ferry more than 150 pupils to Vagabonds Rugby Club for collection.
Bus Vannin also rerouted school buses to ensure those children that got a bus home were unaffected.
A police spokesman said: ‘This may not sound much, however with half an hour to go before the end of the school day, Bus Vannin really pulled out all the stops and ensured the operation went smoothly, keeping disruption and stress to a minimum for the children.
‘Also massive thanks to all the teaching staff at Braddan Primary School who stayed on and travelled with the children to ensure that the operation went smoothly at Vagabonds. All children were collected by 4pm.
‘A massive thanks to Bus Vannin and the teachers, who ensured that the operation went smoothly, a cracking team effort. Also thanks to all the parents and carers for their understanding and support.’
