Police were involved in a brief pursuit in the area of upper Douglas last night.

The vehicle was boxed in and the driver arrested and accused of failing to stop, having no insurance and on suspicion of driving while unfit.

Police said the recently-acquired stinger device was available for use for the first time but in the event was not needed.

A spokesman said: 'It was an available option on the ground but the vehicle was quickly boxed in so was not required - but it could have been.

'If there is a risk to the public various options will be considered to keep the public safe.'
